Bosnia’s Independence Day Celebration
Dan Državnosti, or Independence Day, is a cherished celebration of Bosnia and Herzegovina’s sovereignty, and Sinovi Podrinja Iowa proudly marks this occasion with community events featuring traditional music, cultural performances, and gatherings. It’s a day to honor heritage, connect with others, and celebrate the rich traditions of the Bosnian community in Iowa.
Teferic 2024
Our first Teferić was a memorable event that brought the community together for a day of fun, connection, and celebration. Held in a beautiful park setting, it felt like a traditional Bosnian picnic, complete with lively music, engaging games for all ages, and delicious Bosnian food that everyone enjoyed. Attendees also had the chance to support our organization through donations and merchandise sales, helping us continue our mission of preserving culture and supporting the community. It was a perfect blend of tradition, camaraderie, and purpose, marking the beginning of many cherished gatherings to come.
Celebrating Bosnian Independence Day with a joint Iftar
We marked Bosnia and Herzegovina’s Independence Day with a shared iftar, gathering in unity to honor our heritage and strengthen community bonds. The evening was filled with warm conversations, heartfelt prayers, and a shared spirit of togetherness. Thank you to everyone who joined and contributed to this special occasion, celebrating both our faith and culture.
Youth Hiking Trip
We were honored to take our youth to a hike and picnic at Ledges State Park in Madrid, Iowa. The kids traveled by bus or with their own private car to the park where we spent the day hiking, playing soccer and volleyball, and of course having a picnic. It was a fun day outside for everyone and especially the youth who had a chance to get to know each other better.
Supporting BAAI in the Srebrenica Peace Walk
This year, Sinovi Podrinja had the honor of supporting the BAAI organization during the Srebrenica Peace Walk. Our team was proud to assist with both the event setup and the walk itself, ensuring everything ran smoothly in remembrance of the victims and in support of peace and unity. In addition to logistical support, our group also provided water to participants throughout the walk to help keep everyone hydrated and safe in the heat.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to BAAI for including Sinovi Podrinja in this meaningful event. We truly appreciate the opportunity to be part of such an important cause.
